INTERNATIONAL SERVICE-LEARNING OF DUTA WACANA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY
This program managed by the Centre for Research and Community Service. This program facilitates students and lecturers to learn from and serve the community. The participants came from various academic background. The students involved in the Service-Learning program had different backgrounds and came from several faculties and departments. Duta Wacana Christian University has 2 kinds of International Service-Learning program, namely Yogyakarta Kampung Field School (YKFS) that takes place around Yogyakarta Special Province in Java Island and Thematic Service Learning (ITSL) that takes place outside Java Island.
YOGYAKARTA KAMPUNG FIELD SCHOOL (YKFS) INTERNATIONAL SERVICE-LEARNING OF DUTA WACANA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY
YKFS has been running since 2009 with several collaboration p a r t n e r s . W e s t a r t e d b y collaborating with Australian National University (ANU) in 2009, and then joined by The H o n g K o n g P o l y t e c h n i c U n i v e r s i t y i n 2 0 1 2 . Th i s program has taken place in several locations s i n c e 2 0 0 9 , s t a r t i n g f r o m s o m e ‘ k a m p u n g ’ (vi l l a g e ) in Yogyakarta Municipality, and then moved to Banjaroya village, Kalibawang, Kulonprogo District in 2013 and then Sentolo, Kulonprogo District in 2015.
NTERNATIONAL THEMATIC SERVICE-LEARNING (ITSL)
The ITSL started in 2013, taking place in Tobelo, North Halmahera District, North Maluku Province, then Loloda, West Halmahera District, North Maluku Province. TSL was held in Rote, East Nusa Tenggara in 2015, and Central Sumba District in 2016.
2017 YKFS Program
In 2017, YKFS will take place in Sentolo, Kulonprogo District, starting on July 3rd – 31st 2017. There are local students from Duta Wacana Christian University and also foreign students. The preparation for all participants must be carried out both at Duta Wacana Christian University and also at the home University where the students come from. It is necessary for the students to have a background knowledge of the target community, so that needs assessment can be done properly. After arriving in Yogyakarta, the students will attend a short workshop at Duta Wacana Christian University before being deployed to the village. In the rst week, all students will conduct a short survey or rapid needs assessment and also learn local wisdom and culture, local policy and restrictions, and other important aspects of the community. In the following weeks, students work together to improve and empower local community for sustainable development. During the Service-Learning program, all students have to participate in a routine discussion once every three days or two times a week with the supervisors. At the end of the program, the students will present their ndings to the local government ofcers, community representatives and supervisors. Students will also have a chance to visit several tourism objects during this program
ACTIVITIES
1. Half-day preliminary workshop for all students at Duta Wacana Christian University for YKFS participants.
2. Live in low-income settlement.
3. Learn from and serve the community
4. Attend evaluation discussion on ndings on regular intervals (every 2-3 days).
5. End-program-conference/hearings presented in front of the local government ofcers, the community representatives and superviosrs.

FEES
F e e s i n c l u d e a c c o m m o d a t i o n , m e a l s , l o c a l transportation and supervision (excluding transportation fee to and from Yogyakarta):
• 4 week program fee is 550 USD
• 2 week program fee is 300 USD
ACCOMODATIONS
All students will stay together with a low-income family in rural areas.
DURATION OF THE PROGRAM
4 weeks (10th July - 8th August 2017).
ELIGIBILITY
Undergraduate student, over 18 years old, able to communicate in English, healthy, motivated, vibrant, exible, able to work in a team, and enrolled in the home university.
