Friday, August 11, 2017, Prof. Chun Hyunju (Professor at the Department of International Language and Director of International Language Center) and Mr. Ryu Kwangchul (Dean of Institute of International Affairs) from Shinhan University, Korea visited Duta Wacana Christian University (DWCU). It was Shinhan University’s first visit to DWCU. The purpose of this visit was to build partnership between the two universities as both universities understand the importance of developing international partnership. The representatives from Shinhan University were welcomed by the President of DWCU, Dr. Henry Feriadi and the Director of the Office of Partnerships and Public Relations, Arida Susyetina, S.S., M.A. at Rectorate Meeting Room. The meeting was started with introduction and short presentation about both universities, then followed by discussion.
Shinhan University is a private university located in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It has two campuses, one in Uijeongbu City and the other in Dongducheon City. Located just outside of Soul, the capital city of South Korea, Mr. Ryu claimed that both campuses have the best location since they are very close to the subway station.Close as it is, Mangwolsa Station which is within one-minute distance on foot to the campus is also known as Shinhan University Station.
“Shinhan University has over six thousands students, six colleges and twenty two departments including Nursing, Engineering, Healthcare, Food and Culinary, Business and Tourism, IT and Computer Science, Performance Art, Social Science, and others,” Prof. Chun explained. “Currently Shinhan University has around 260 international students from twenty countries,” she added. Shinhan Unviresity was officially launched in 2014 by merging Shinheung University and Hanbuk University. Though the new merged school is still young, it actually has more than forty years history, started as Shinheung Institute in 1960s which grew into a respectable university. “Almost everybody knows about Shinheung, but not everyone knows about Shinhan”, said Mr. Ryu.Consequently, Shinhan University is working hard to be recognized as a prestigious university in Korea.
During the meeting, DWCU and Shinhan University were discussing about what the two institutions have in common and the possibilities for collaborations, such as student exchange, staff exchange, visiting professor, summer camp or summer program, joint program, voluntary program, language program, etc. In this occasion, DWCU got the chance to show some videos of the international programs that have been done before. It gave some idea about what kind of program DWCU and Shinhan University can work together as a start. Both universities were so eager to join hands and agreed to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
