The UKDW Service - Learning Division is one division under the Institute for Research and Community Service, Duta Wacana Christian University. This division assists students and lecturers who want to do community service through Service - Learning Program. It manages collaboration among students, academic advisors or lecturers, community and local government as well as Non Government Organizations. The main objective of the Service - Learning program is to teach the students theories as well as the practice of how to empower poor community.
This program is meant for the students to develop a better understanding of reality of the world; to motivate them to solve the problems; to understand and consider what they can do for the community; to learn how they can serve others; to consider the purpose of their lives; to strengthen their sense of responsibility; to be more confident and compassionate; to be more trustworthy in leadership. Learning from low-income communities in Indonesian, they can help less-fortunate people in improving their surrounding environmental quality and elevating their standard of living.

I am glad to join this Joint Summer Program with "The Importance of Water Sustainability" as the theme. In this program, I experienced Indonesian culture, tasted traditional food and learned Indonesian language. I met many friends from Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, and India. We talked about the different lifestyle, food, and had a wonderful time together. I learned a lot from them and I really cherished the precious friendship we build together.

This is my first time to meet a lot of friends from different countries at once. I felt little bit nervous at the beginning, but it was really exciting. Through this program, I learned how to understand other cultures and religions. I hope I could stay in Yogyakarta for a longer period. Thank you for inviting me to this program.

Joining this summer program was truly a blessing for me. Not only I got the chance to fly abroad and enjoy a new country, I also got the chance to meet and share my life with the most amazing people. While attending the summer program, my friends and I got to experience Indonesia's rich culture and also learned about the importance of water in our life. We were taught on how to make potable water out of rainwater. We were taught the value of teamwork and friendship. But most importantly, we were taught how truly wonderful the Indonesian culture is. In behalf of St. Paul University Philippines, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Stikes Bethesda Yakkum and Duta Wacana Christian University for giving us the opportunity to be part of this truly wonderful program. Maraming Salamat po! Mabuhay!
